Local accountant, Graham Wood, launched his modest practice in Greater Manchester in the early 1950s. Originally trading as ‘Graham H Wood & Co’, we were based in Ashton-Under-Lyne before relocating to Hyde in 1975.

Graham’s son, Tony, took over the practice in 1963. He would lead the business with distinction for over 35 years, before his retirement in 1999. Under Tony’s stewardship, the firm’s reputation for quality and compliance was solidified, becoming well-known for high-quality accounting across Hyde, Cheshire, and Greater Manchester.

In 1973, young upstarts Steven Booth and Peter Hibbert joined the business fresh from school. Just four years later, Frank Duerden was added to the team. The three of them remain with the firm today, providing over 150 years of outstanding service between them! 

Our practice moved to new offices in Hyde in 1975, where we remain to this day. The building was formerly owned by Hyde Equitable Co-operative Society, hence the ‘H.E.C.S.’ insignia you can see at the top of the building.

With Tony at the helm, he was keen to reward the talent and hard work of his team, welcoming Steven as a partner in 1983. Frank and Peter would join him in the partnership in 1991. Tony retired in 1999 after almost 40 years of leadership.

In 2024, we joined the Danbro Group - a leading provider in accounting, employment, and payroll services. Whilst this move represents infinite opportunity and excitement for the future, rest assured, we’re still the same Graham Wood you know & trust.
